Game Room

Do you enjoy playing games? Of course you do, I mean, what else is there...

R/C Car When not working or taking care of my family, I like to play board games, card games, and computer games. I also like fiddling with my remote control cars and remote control boat.

My current obsessions are MindRover and RoboForge. Although I also enjoy the occasional game of Armored Core, Deus-Ex, Majesty, X-Com, Heroes of Might & Magic, Rush 2049, plus a few more...

MindRover is a robot programming game for the PC. It is similar to many of games that have been done in the past, but it has a programming interface that is much better than anything that has been done before. The programming interface is most like one of the visual programming languages where you just drag and drop objects and set their properties, rather than writing actual code (although that is also supported). Additionally, you can import and export your creations to see how they compete against the creations of other players from all around the world. There is a Mini-MindRover game you can play online that gives a small taste of what the full game is like. I also run a fan site for MindRover called BattleSpot.

RoboForge is another robot programming game for the PC. However, it is unlike any game I've ever seen before. RoboForge plays much like a LEGO set, but one where you can bring your creations to life and then fight them vs other player's creations. The basic idea is the same as MindRover, but MindRover only gives you a fairly limited set of physical components and the game focuses mostly on the programming aspect (which it does very well!) RoboForge really focuses on the construction aspect, with just a dash of AI to make things move (the really difficult programming has already been done for you).
